The international conference “Ethics, Innovation, Care: The Italy–USA Dialogue for a More Human-Centered Healthcare System” will take place at the Consulate General of Italy in New York.
The initiative is promoted by the Italian Parliamentary Intergroups “Progetto Italia (Public Works, Construction and Urban Planning)”, chaired by Hon. Erica Mazzetti, and “Healthcare and Recovery”, chaired by Hon. Simona Loizzo, with the participation of distinguished institutional leaders, academics, and healthcare professionals from both Italy and the United States.
The conference stems from the joint commitment of the two Parliamentary Intergroups to foster a structured dialogue between Italy and the United States on key healthcare challenges, with a focus on placing the individual at the center of care while ensuring the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems, including their economic and organizational dimensions.
This initiative is part of a broader institutional mission in the United States aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation on strategic issues such as healthcare, technological innovation, and organizational models focused on patient-centered care.
The conference will open with remarks by the Consul General of Italy in New York, Giuseppe Pastorelli. During the opening session, institutional greetings from the Italian Minister of Health, Hon. Orazio Schillaci, will be delivered via video message. A remote address will also be given by Don Marco Belladelli, Coordinator of the Pontifical Commission for the healthcare activities of public juridical persons of the Church.
The conference will be moderated by Eng. Alessandro Astorino, Secretary General promoting the Parliamentary Intergroups. The opening session will feature contributions from Hon. Erica Mazzetti, Chair of the “Progetto Italia” Parliamentary Intergroup, and Prof. Vittorio De Pedys, President of SIMEST S.p.A., highlighting the strategic role of internationalization and investment in the healthcare sector.
Speakers include leading figures from the international landscape, such as Tino Ruta (CEO, Knights Care LLC), Massimo Mangini (President, Mangini Group), Marc Zimmet (CEO, Zimmet Healthcare), Ken Kitatani (ICEED Governance Officer), Tanya Enigk (Vice President, CCORisk Management), and Alessandro Salatino (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute – Harvard Medical School).
The conference will explore key topics including eldercare in the U.S. and in Italy, digital health innovation, sustainable healthcare management models, and the emerging frontiers of precision medicine. A central focus will be the “humanization of care,” in line with recent policy developments and a vision that places the individual at the core of healthcare pathways.
Closing remarks will be delivered by Monsignor Hilary Franco, Advisor to the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, underscoring the ethical and international significance of the initiative.
This event represents a valuable opportunity for dialogue among institutions, businesses, and academia, with the goal of building cooperative models that integrate innovation, sustainability—including economic sustainability—and respect for human dignity.
