Houston’s Italian community will gather on Thursday, August 27, to mark the conclusion of Consul General Mauro Lorenzini’s assignment in Texas. The farewell begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Italian Cultural & Community Center, 1101 Milford Street, in Houston’s Museum District.
The reception brings together four organizations active in the region’s Italian network: Comites Houston, the Italian Cultural & Community Center, the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Texas, and the local chapter of ISSNAF, the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation. The event is open to the wider community and includes refreshments.
Lorenzini has served as Italy’s consul general in Houston since October 5, 2022. A career diplomat with 25 years of experience in international relations, he has led the consular office responsible for Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. During his tenure, the consulate’s work extended beyond routine services such as passports, visas, and citizenship matters, with a visible focus on cultural, academic, scientific, and business connections between Italy and the United States.
Texas has become an increasingly important part of Italy’s U.S. strategy. In 2026, Houston was named the Capital of Italian Creativity in the World, and ITA Airways inaugurated the first nonstop service between Houston and Rome. The route created a direct link for travelers, companies, and families across the two countries.
The gathering offers local Italian nationals and Italian Americans an opportunity to recognize Lorenzini’s role during a period of expanding institutional and community engagement. It also highlights the network of volunteer, cultural, academic, and business groups that supports Italy’s presence across Texas and the broader four-state consular district.
