Italian American Chas Calenda, a former Republican candidate for R.I. attorney general and West Greenwich town councilor, has been appointed as the interim U.S. attorney for Rhode Island. Calenda told 12 News over the phone Saturday he was selected Tuesday by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“It’s an honor,” Calenda said. He declined to comment further on the process of his selection and when he first found out. News of Calenda’s appointment was first reported by the Boston Globe Saturday.
