Italian American heritage advocates advance county museum plans

For almost as long as he can remember, Bob Fonti has been an active supporter of the Italian American community, raising the group’s profile and awareness for its countless societal contributions. That’s why it was fitting that Fonti, chairman of the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers, joined local elected officials and business leaders at Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine’s announcement last week of plans for a county Italian American museum.

Fonti called the announcement “a monumental moment” for Long Island’s Italian American community. “For me, this is not simply about creating a building or an institution. My role is about helping shape the vision, build the support, preserve our history, and make sure the Italian American experience is documented and presented with the dignity and authenticity it deserves,” Fonti told LIBN.
