Houston is preparing to spotlight Italian scientific talent with the 2026 Italian Research Meeting, scheduled for October 24 at Rice University. The annual gathering is designed to strengthen connections among researchers, universities and scientific institutions across the region while showcasing the contribution of Italian researchers to American science.
The event is organized by Com.It.Es. Houston, the ISSNAF West South Central Chapter and the Houston Chapter of Italian Women in USA, with support from Rice University’s Smalley-Curl Institute and under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy in Houston.
Young researchers have until October 8 to submit abstracts. The call is open to Italian graduate students and postdoctoral researchers working in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, provided postdocs are within 7 years of earning their PhD. Graduate students and postdocs of any nationality may also participate when conducting research under the supervision of an Italian principal investigator.
The scientific scope is deliberately broad – from medicine, biotechnology and neuroscience to artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, environmental studies and space and aerospace research.
Abstracts must be written in English and limited to 300 words. All accepted contributions will be considered for poster presentations, while the 5 most competitive abstracts will earn a 10-minute oral presentation. Selected speakers will be notified by October 12.
Recognition will also be part of the program, with awards for the 3 best posters and the best oral presentation. More than a scientific meeting, the Houston initiative offers Italian researchers an opportunity to expand professional networks, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and make Italy’s scientific excellence increasingly visible in the United States.
