Italian spending reaches a record as technology and experiences reshape daily life

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Italian households are spending more than ever, but the composition of their purchases has changed dramatically. Technology, communications, travel, cultural activities, and dining out are gaining importance, while traditional categories such as food consumed at home, clothing, furniture, and household energy are growing more slowly or losing part of their share.

According to estimates from Confcommercio’s Research Department, real consumer spending in Italy will reach €23,261 per person in 2026. That represents an increase of €314 from €22,947 in 2025 and places spending above both the pre-pandemic level and the previous record of €22,975, established in 2007 before the global financial crisis.
