Italian processed tomato products are strengthening their position in the United States, with exports accelerating sharply during the first 7 months of 2026.
According to projections based on Italian national statistics, the value of Italian canned and preserved tomato exports to the US increased by 11.4% compared with the same period in 2025. Export volumes rose even faster, climbing 11.8%.
From January through July, shipments exceeded €132 million in value and 105,000 metric tons in volume, highlighting the continued appetite of American consumers for Italian tomato products.
The US was already one of the industry's most important international destinations. In 2025, Italian exports to the American market totaled €203.7 million, representing approximately 163,301 metric tons.
If the pace recorded during the first 7 months continues through the end of 2026, exports could approach €227 million and nearly 183,000 metric tons. That would push the sector beyond the record levels reached in 2024.
The figures are particularly significant for one of Italy's most recognizable food industries. Processed tomatoes – including peeled tomatoes, passata, sauces and other preserved products – combine Italian agriculture with a highly specialized processing industry and an export-oriented supply chain.
The American market remains especially important because Italian tomato products have long been closely connected to both Italian cuisine and Italian American food culture.
The latest numbers suggest that this relationship remains commercially powerful. Despite changing international trade conditions and growing competition, demand in the United States continues to reward products associated with Italian origin, production expertise and quality – reinforcing the role of tomatoes as one of Made in Italy's most successful food exports.
