Italian universities continue to gain visibility in international rankings, showing gradual progress while still facing a gap compared to leading global institutions. In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings, the top Italian university is the Politecnico di Milano, which reached 98th place worldwide, confirming its position as the country’s strongest performer.

Just behind, Sapienza University of Rome ranked 128th globally, improving from 132nd the previous year and marking its best result ever in this ranking.
