Italian wine strengthens its U.S. connection as Vinitaly.USA heads to New York

Italian wine is preparing for a major showcase in the United States as Vinitaly.USA 2026 arrives in New York on October 26–27. After 2 editions in Chicago, the B2B event moves to Pier 36 in Manhattan, bringing Italian producers together with American importers, distributors, buyers and hospitality professionals.

The U.S. remains essential to Italy’s wine economy. In 2025, Italian wine exports to the United States reached $2.03 billion and exceeded 3.5 million hectoliters. Italy ranked first among wine exporters to the U.S. by volume and second by value, behind France. Overall, Italy exported €7.77 billion of wine worldwide in 2025, making the American market one of the industry’s most important pillars.

Wine is also increasingly connected with American tourism to Italy. During the first 6 months of 2026, 1.9 million U.S. travelers visited Italy, generating more than 17.7 million overnight stays. Compared with the same period in 2025, American arrivals increased 6.2%, overnight stays 7.6% and spending 7.5%.

The wine-and-food segment is expanding even faster. In 2025, approximately 30,000 Americans traveled to Italy specifically for food and wine experiences – twice the 2024 number – spending €42.3 million. Overall U.S. tourism spending in Italy reached €6.6 billion in 2025.

The potential extends well beyond wine sales. Italy’s wine tourism sector is now valued at €3.1 billion, while 85% of international wine tourists surveyed identify Italy as their preferred destination for a future wine experience and 98% expect to repeat a wine-related trip within 2–3 years.

Vinitaly.USA therefore connects 2 powerful Made in Italy industries – wine and tourism – while strengthening an already substantial economic bridge between Italy and the United States.
