Italy’s digital transformation has produced an unusual paradox: the country is rapidly building one of the most extensive fiber-optic infrastructures in Europe, but millions of Italians have yet to take full advantage of it. The good news comes first. Italy has made remarkable progress in bringing fiber directly to homes and businesses.
According to the latest AGCOM data, FTTH coverage reached 77.6% of Italian households in 2025, compared with just 30% in 2019 and 33.4% in 2020. More recent mapping indicates that the expansion continued strongly into 2026, with FTTH reaching more than 80% of households.
