Italy o Thursday nominated the traditional 'prespe' Nativity scene, Valpolicella wine grapes and Alpine food for inclusion on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. The Italian National Commission for UNESCO decided, at the request of the Ministry of Culture (MIC), to submit the three new nominations to the United Nations cultural body, said a statement from the MIC.
The nomination, "The Nativity Scene, from its origins to cultural tradition, and the art of creating it," highlights "the artistic creativity, craftsmanship, and popular spirituality of nativity scene communities, with contributions from the Italian Association of Friends of the Nativity Scene and the symbolic sites of Greccio and Assisi.
