Italy is preparing to launch a new system of competitive auctions designed to expand renewable hydrogen production and make the emerging fuel more economically viable for industry and transportation.
The mechanism is established by a decree from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security dated June 5, 2026, published in Italy’s Official Gazette on August 7. The measure entered into force the following day after receiving clearance from the European Commission on March 30, 2026.
