Tourism is proving to be a powerhouse for Italy’s economy in 2025 – generating both jobs and growth across every region. The tourism sector is expected to support 3.2 million jobs by year’s end, growing to 3.7 million over the next decade. Meanwhile, its contribution to Italy’s GDP is projected to reach €237.4 billion this year, with forecasts pointing to €282.6 billion by 2035.
Spending by tourists is fueling much of that expansion. Overall tourist expenditures in 2025 are estimated at €185 billion, of which €124.6 billion will come from domestic travelers and €60.4 billion from international visitors. Compared to 2024, international tourist spending is expected to rise 9.4%, while domestic spending edges up by 1.6%.
