Italy closed 2024 with roughly 466 million overnight stays, marking a solid rise from 2019. Yet the increase isn’t unfolding evenly. According to recent national tourism analyses, the country is moving at two different speeds: a small group of provinces is booming, while many others are barely recovering.
What stands out immediately is how concentrated tourism has become. Just ten provinces account for half of all overnight stays recorded nationwide. At the top of the list sits Rome, which has surged past 47 million nights and grown sharply since the pre-pandemic years.
