The Italian American Veterans Club (IAV) of Elmira is no longer in existence, but that didn't stop former club members from finding a way to continue serving the community. The club, which opened in the mid-1950s, closed for good in 2025, and members decided to share proceeds from the sale of its building at 1070 Magee St. in Elmira with four local nonprofit organizations.
Representatives from the former veterans organization, including immediate past Commander Geno Dunn, gathered at Arctic League headquarters in Elmira on Wednesday afternoon to present checks to the Arctic League, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 803, Chemung County Family Fitness Center, and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
