Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo is getting a salary increase. The MSU Board of Trustees approved the raise for Izzo during their meeting on Friday, Dec. 12. The updated contract, released after the meeting, gives Izzo a $1 million raise, bringing his total compensation from $6.2 million to $7.2 million per year.
The contract, which renews annually, goes into effect Jan. 1. Izzo was already the highest-paid basketball coach in the Big Ten in total compensation, according to USA TODAY Sports' coaching salary database. But UCLA's Mick Cronin was making $6.1 million (as of March 2025).
