Italy’s cost-of-living map continues to show striking differences between North and South, with Milan once again emerging as the country’s most expensive major city for a representative basket of everyday goods and services.
According to the latest Codacons survey, based on June 2026 data from the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy’s price observatory, the same basket costs €692.71 in Milan but only €401.91 in Naples. That is a difference of almost €291 – meaning the Naples total is about 42% lower.
