Thanks to the commitment and leadership of Dr. Emanuele Orrù (Chair) and Dr. Carlo Maria Rosati (Co-Chair), ISSNAF is pleased to announce the establishment of the Physicians and Surgeons Thematic Chapter (PHS).
The ISSNAF Thematic Chaptersbring together the ISSNAF community around specific areas of expertise, advancing the organization’s mission through focused, field-driven initiatives.
Within this framework, the PHS Chapter connects Italian physicians and surgeons practicing in the United States and Canada and aims to build a structured network of Italian medical professionals, fostering the exchange of knowledge, experience, mentorship, and professional opportunities, while supporting colleagues interested in pursuing a medical career within the North American healthcare system.
The Chapter will focus on the following initiatives:
-
Mapping and networking: maintaining an up-to-date directory of Italian physicians and surgeons in the U.S. and Canada, fostering collaboration, peer connections, and mentorship opportunities.
-
Institutional collaborations: Establishing relationships with Italian universities, medical boards, and training institutions to promote cultural exchange, research collaborations, and structured educational or training experiences.
-
Practical and informational resources: Developing clear, standardized, and easily accessible materials addressing key aspects of working as a physician in the U.S., including visas, licensure pathways, training requirements, and cultural considerations.
-
Inaugural webinar: “Becoming and Working as a Physician in the U.S.: Steps, Visas, Licensure, and Realistic Timelines,” to be scheduled with sufficient advance notice to encourage broad participation.
Eligibility for membership in the Physicians and Surgeons Chapter includes:
