Eight teams at Jacob H. Schiff Playground for Italian Sports Day in the World. A beautiful sunny day provided the backdrop on Saturday, September 12, for the second edition of the Giovanni Malagò Five-a-Side Soccer Tournament, organized in New York on the occasion of Italian Sports Day in the World.
The tournament was held at Jacob H. Schiff Playground, between 137th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan, bringing together the Italian and Italian American community for an afternoon dedicated to sports, friendship, and healthy competition.
The initiative was jointly promoted by the Consulate General of Italy in New York, the United States Delegation of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), COMITES New York, and Lega Serie A.
Representing the four organizing institutions were the Consul General of Italy in New York, Giuseppe Pastorelli; CONI’s U.S. delegate, Mico Delianova Licastro; Alessandro Girardi, representing Lega Serie A; COMITES New York President Barbara Pelachin Marciandi; and Vice President Ornella Fado.
Ornella Fado, who also serves as Chair of the Communications and Events Committee, oversaw communications for the event, producing photographs, videos, and interviews and sharing the most significant moments of the day through COMITES New York’s social media channels.
Also representing COMITES were Secretary Marco Cortigiani, Treasurer Enrico Zanon, and Council Member Paolo Tartamella, who provided valuable operational support, assisting with the organization and also serving as referees during the matches.
