The 80th anniversary of the Fulbright Program, hosted at the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, drew a large audience - many American alumni were in attendance alongside Italian fellows currently based in the U.S. Northeast - and provided an opportunity to trace an ideal bridge between the rich intellectual exchanges of the late 18th century between the American Founding Fathers and Italian Enlightenment thinkers, and those fostered since 1946 through eight decades of transatlantic exchanges under the Fulbright Program.
Italy is the second most popular destination for American fellows, while the United States has seen Italian funding for the bilateral exchange program double.
The America250 conference series thus concludes under the banner of a renewed and strengthened cultural dialogue.
Special thanks go to the Director of the Italian Fulbright Commission, Paola Sartorio, to Professors Insana and Maci of the University of Pittsburgh, and to the many participants who contributed to the success of the event.
