One of downtown San Diego's most recognizable landmarks has temporarily disappeared from the city, as the iconic Little Italy neighborhood sign spanning India Street has been taken down for repairs and refurbishment following damage sustained earlier this year.
The beloved gateway, which has welcomed visitors to the historic Italian-American neighborhood since 2000, is expected to return in time for the community's annual holiday festivities. The Little Italy Association announced the removal on October 27, sharing photographs of crews using heavy equipment to carefully lower the massive sign from its position above India Street.
