Steubenville moves to become sister city with Spoltore, Italy, mayor says

Steubenville is moving closer to establishing a new international partnership aimed at strengthening cultural ties and boosting tourism. Mayor Ralph Petrella said city officials are in the process of signing documents to make Steubenville a sister city of Spoltore, a small hill town in the province of Pescara, Italy. Petrella said a number of local families immigrated from that region, creating a cultural connection in the area.

Petrella said Spoltore’s mayor reached out to Steubenville’s previous administration and city officials are continuing to follow through with the plans. He said the agreement is expected to create opportunities for tourism, allowing residents in Steubenville to visit Spoltore and residents of Spoltore to visit Steubenville.
