Sustainable packaging is no longer a secondary detail in Italy’s grocery habits but a decisive factor shaping how people shop and eat. Recent research shows that more than 7 out of 10 Italians – about 70% – consider packaging sustainability when choosing food products, confirming a major shift in consumer awareness and priorities.
While quality and price still dominate decision-making for roughly 90% of shoppers, environmental impact is rapidly gaining ground. Around 77% of consumers say the sustainability of packaging influences their purchases, followed by 75% who value practicality, such as resealable or portion-friendly designs, and 72% who pay attention to the type of material used.
