Terrence Flynn, new US Consul in Naples, launches America 250 brand

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Terrence Flynn – born in Minnesota and partly of Italian descent – is the new U.S. Consul General stationed in Naples. He introduced himself from the consulate’s terrace in Piazza della Repubblica, looking out over the bay, smiling and thanking everyone for attending. He spoke about the enduring connection between the U.S. and Italy, emphasizing shared values of liberty, democracy, and the youthful American enthusiasm for Italy – whether for study, travel, or simply soaking in its culture.

Flynn also noted two milestone anniversaries coming up in 2026: the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, and the 230th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. consulate in Naples – the oldest U.S. diplomatic post in Europe. To mark these occasions, he unveiled “America 250” as the official brand and logo that the consulate will use in all its initiatives.

Before Naples, Flynn’s diplomatic service took him through complex postings in places like Iraq, Turkey, Brazil, Russia, El Salvador, Malaysia, Malta, and Trinidad and Tobago, tackling difficult issues including counter-narcotics efforts. Now he says he carries the South of Italy close to his heart.

In his remarks on the terrace, Flynn expressed his admiration for Italy’s heritage and the warmth of its people. He highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, student mobility, and tourism in strengthening ties between the two nations. His message was clear: the consulate intends not only to represent U.S. interests but to deepen friendship – through “America 250” and beyond – with Naples, its South, and Italy as a whole.
