The big heart of Italian Americans – fundraising drive for communities hit by Cyclone Harry

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support communities affected by Cyclone Harry. The initiative comes from NIAF (the National Italian American Foundation), the organization that brings together Italian Americans. Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, spoke about it today in Cagliari, Sardinia, where he was presenting initiatives coordinated by the Foreign Ministry to support businesses impacted by Cyclone Harry.

“Tomorrow and the day after,” the foreign minister said, “I’ll be in Washington for an event on raw materials, and on that occasion I’ll meet with representatives of NIAF, the organization that represents Italian Americans. They will hand me a copy of the first bank transfer made to Italy’s Civil Protection agency, using funds raised among Italian Americans,” for the areas hit by flooding.

The solidarity effort will not stop there, the deputy prime minister explained: “They will continue raising funds. It’s a wonderful gesture, and I think it’s important to feel the closeness of people who don’t live in Italy but have Italian blood.”
