‘The Last One For The Road’, ‘La Grazia’ and ‘The Tasters’ lead Italy’s David di Donatello nominees

Francesco Sossai’s The Last One For The Road (Le Città di Pianura) has emerged as the frontrunner at Italy’s David di Donatello awards with 16 nominations. The comedy-drama, which world premiered last year in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard, centres on a chaotic road trip through the Venetian plains by two broke, bar-hopping fiftysomethings and a drifting architecture student.

Just behind is Paolo Sorrentino’s political drama La Grazia with 14 nominations, and Silvio Soldini’s The Tasters, about women forced to taste Hitler’s food to check for poison, with 13 nominations. Pietro Marcello’s biopic Duse, Mario Martone’s biographical drama Fuori and Gabriele Mainetti’s martial arts movie Forbidden City are tied on eight nominations each, while Damiano Michieletto’s Venice-set musical drama Primavera has seven nods.
