US Fabric Market Slips 4.2% While Italy Strengthens Premium Position

According to the latest trade data, Italy’s fabric shipments to the US fetched an average price of US$ 12.17 per square metre during January-June 2026—more than 11 times the global average import price. The substantial price premium reflects Italy’s strong positioning in high-value textiles, including luxury fashion fabrics, specialised woven materials and other differentiated products where quality, design, craftsmanship and brand reputation play a decisive role.

The decline in overall US fabric imports comes amid a broader slowdown in the country’s textile and apparel sourcing activity. Recent data indicates that US textile and apparel imports contracted during the first half of 2026, reflecting cautious purchasing by buyers and continued adjustments across global supply chains.
