Vicenza high school students explore war journalism with USAG-Italy

Vicenza High School students engaged in the American Red Cross Youth Action Campaign took part in a Jan. 7 workshop on war journalism and correspondence. The Youth Action Campaign (YAC) introduces teens to International Humanitarian Law, and this year’s theme focuses on Journalism During Armed Conflict.

USAG-Italy Public Affairs Director Rick Scavetta shared insights from his time as a Stars and Stripes reporter from 2001–2004, when he covered events on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. A great learning experience for students, offering a firsthand look at the role of journalism, ethics, and storytelling from the front lines.
