West Springfield bocce competition brings generations together

By: Ted Zwinski

Teams gathered at the Dante Club in West Springfield on March 31 for a bocce competition, celebrating a traditional Italian game that has become a staple in the local community. The event brought together players of various generations to compete in the sport.

The gathering served as a focal point for fostering community connections through a shared love of the game. The event was organized by Rico Daniele, a prominent local figure who authored the first book on bocce published in the United States. The sport of bocce has deep historical roots, with its current format dating back to 264 B.C. in Rome.
