As I considered possible topics this month, a regular reader asked, “Why not revisit some of your old Wildwood memories?” A suitable topic for the August issue, even though I had been thinking about writing a column on Padre Pio. As it turned out, Padre Pio found his way into this story anyway.
My Wildwood memories run deep. They begin in the 1950s at my grandfather Guido Acciavatti’s still-standing cinder-block home at 107 Wisteria Road in Wildwood Crest, and walking to Cresse Avenue Beach near the Waikiki Oceanfront Inn, still there, where my Uncle Al Alberts taped his Channel 6 television program, “Al Alberts Showcase.”
