Does this amuse you? Sept. 19 marks the 35th anniversary of Goodfellas. The Martin Scorsese adaptation remains a masterclass in filmmaking, celebrated for its stylish camerawork and gritty realism. Based on Nicholas Pileggi's book Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, the 1990 crime epic follows Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), a Brooklyn kid whose idealization of the gangsters in his Italian-American neighborhood leads to his rise through the Mafia ranks before he turns FBI informant.
"During the middle of it, I didn't know how it was gonna turn out," the late Liotta told the New York Post in 2020. "It was just a lot of fun playing make-believe with all these other people who loved to play make-believe."
