An Italian-American baker in Morris Park known for its elaborate cakes continues to be a hit with customers. Conti's Pastry Shoppe has been in the community for nearly a century. Even though the shop is no longer owned by the original family, the traditions and secrets behind the bakery's famous desserts are still around.
"We've been here 98 years this year," says Sal Paljevic. "It's an old fashioned place that brings me back to my childhood. And I'm a young guy, but there's a lot of our customers here that they spent their teen years here you know 60, 70, 80 years ago." Paljevic says the bakery does a variety of Italian pastries and has added new menu items. But the item that stands the test of time is the bakery's Boston cream pie.
