Massimo Bottura, the man behind Osteria Francescana—the world's best restaurant, according to last month's announcement of the San Pellegrino 2016 World's 50 Best Restaurants list—plans to bring is considerable culinary clout to New York next year—specifically, the Bronx.
Bottura's not only renowned for his Modena, Italy, restaurant, but also for his charitable efforts to combat hunger and food waste around the world. In Milan, he teamed up with a Catholic charity and top chefs Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park and Rene Redzepi of Noma to turn an abandoned theater into Refettorio Ambrosiano, a soup kitchen for the homeless, using leftover food from the Milan Expo. The concept will be recreated in Rio later this summer, feeding the hungry with leftovers from the Olympic games.
