Thanks to Senator La Marca's many solicitations, yesterday, Tuesday, Jan. 23, her two Bills providing "Provisions on the reopening of the deadline for the reacquisition of Italian citizenship" and "Amendments to Law No. 91 of Feb. 5, 1992, on the reacquisition of citizenship by women who have lost it as a result of marriage to a foreigner and their descendants" landed in the Senate's 1st Committee, Constitutional Affairs.

"This is the beginning of a long journey that will see me engaged in the coming months following the work of the 1st Senate Committee. I take this opportunity to thank Commission Chairman Balboni for accepting my requests, understanding the importance of the reacquisition of Italian citizenship for the many compatriots around the world who have been waiting for this measure for many years."

"Every week my office receives solicitations from many Italians, not only in North and Central America, but from all over the world, asking how and when they will be able to reacquire Italian citizenship given the suspension that has been going on for 25 years now. I trust that, on such an important measure, we will reach the widest possible convergence and that the majority will also cooperate with us in the goal of reopening the terms and finally allow the many Italians to recover a right that has been suspended for too long."

In an interview she gave to 9Colonne yesterday, the senator further reiterated her total commitment and the perseverance with which she will pursue the battle on this issue. You can review the full interview here.
