Inps on the hunt for Italian pensioners who died abroad: with a video call will have to prove they are alive, otherwise no more check

Starting next year, all those who receive an Italian pension abroad will have to prove that they are still alive. How? By video call with the consular office. From February 7, 2022, in fact, pensioners who are resident abroad  will receive from Citibank NA (the bank that makes payments outside Italyon behalf of the INPS) the forms for the request for proof of life.

It won't be enough to just fill them in, it will be necessary to demonstrate that you are actually alive. In fact, it is a real necessity for the INPS to verify the existence of pensioners abroad, otherwise it would have difficulty in acquiring "complete, updated and timely" information on the death of pensioners abroad, risking making payments that are not due.

Once the retirees have received the forms and once they have filled them out, they will have until June 7, 2022 to go, in presence, to one of the qualified parties, such as consulates, patronages or local authorities, in order to certify their existence. Otherwise they can activate a video call with the consular offices, via "Skype, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp", so they can verify the circumstance for "direct vision".

In the event that the Inps does not receive any response by June 7, 2022, then the payment of the July 2022 installment will be made in cash at Western Union agencies and, in the event of failure to collect personally or to produce the attestation by July 19, the payment of the pension will be suspended starting with the August 2022 installment.
