Thousands of people from around the area descended on Nonantum last week for the 78th annual St. Mary's of Carmen festival. "It's important," said Chuck Proia of the St. Mary of Carmen Society. "This is what we all grew up with and this is what we continue to do to this day."
The five-day Italian-American festival, which includes music, rides and the traditional procession of St. Mary of Carmen, is a family gathering that brings people from all over the region to celebrate community and meet with friends and family, said Proia.
