PS 242 Young Diplomats Magnet Academy in Central Harlem experienced a day unlike any other as they welcomed the colorful spirit of the Italian carnival into their halls. Led by Principal Denise Gomez and Vice Principal Ms. Ellman, the school hosted renowned director and performer Simona Rodano, along with Pasqualino Beltempo, Giorgia Picano, Arianna Stendardo, Giuseppe Agostaro for an enchanting edutainment presentation on the Italian carnival.

PS 242 is at the forefront of bilingual education in Central Harlem, having implemented a dual language program in Italian since 2019. Under this program, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Italian language and culture, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for Italy's rich heritage.

The captivating performance kicked off with the beloved character, The Italian Fairy, who enchanted students with her original music and theatrical charm. Dancers Giorgia Picano and Arianna Stendardo, alongside Pasqualino Beltempo, dazzled the audience with a Venetian dance, inviting young students to join in the festivities. Arlecchino and Pulcinella, iconic figures of Italian folklore, regaled the audience with their comedic monologues and lively songs, fostering a sense of joy and camaraderie.

A highlight of the event was witnessing pre-K and kindergarten students take the stage to perform Italian songs they had prepared with their teachers, showcasing their enthusiasm for language learning and cultural exploration.
