Restaurants decked out in checked-clothed tables offering plates of Italian fare, cafes, lively nightclubs and small boutiques featuring imported goods line the streets. This is the scene at San Francisco's Little Italy, the historic Italian neighborhood that is known worldwide for its Italian culture. Visitors and guests of the area see a little of more the neighborhood's culture as the North Beach Festival celebrates its 61st year this weekend.
Hosted by the North Beach Business Association and Steven Restivo Event Services, Inc., the festival is the city's oldest street fair. Those who attend can check out the more than 150 vendor booths offering fine arts, crafts and gifts. Multiple stages will offer live entertainment including Rumors, the North Beach Brass Band, the Don Alberts Trio, Buckaroo Bonet and Whisky Pills Fiasco.
