Citing the special relationship that Italians have had with San Francisco since the City's inception, Mayor Edwin Lee has declared today "Italian American Friendship and Heritage Day" in San Francisco. The proclamation was presented to Consul General of Italy in San Francisco, the Honorable Mauro Battocchi, at a gathering of Italian community leaders held in the Mayor's Office at City Hall.
The presentation followed a flag-raising ceremony on the Mayor's Balcony, which overlooks Civic Center Plaza. At 10:00 a.m. Italy's tricolore was raised for all of San Francisco to see.
