In 2010, architect Andrea Ponsi published a unique and by many readers treasured introduction to the city where he has lived and worked since 1989: "Florence: A Map of Perceptions."
It consists of journal-like entries, occasionally noting Florence's most celebrated features and sites but just as frequently describing in words and lightly handled watercolor illustrations aspects of Florence most striking to him personally. Now Ponsi has followed the Florence book with "San Francisco: A Map of Perceptions" (University of Virginia Press; 108 pages; $24.95).
