The San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk (SFLIHW) project, which was initially scheduled for July, is now announcing two events in October in honor of former Mayor George Moscone. The initiative is organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco.

The first of the two events will be held on Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., at 600 Union St., with the unveiling ceremony of the plaque honoring Moscone in the presence of Mayor London Breed. This will be followed at 6 p.m., at the INNOVIT - Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, by the meeting “The Legacy of George Moscone,” with reflections by Lincoln Mitchell and recollections by James Molinari.

George Moscone was a U.S. politician of Italian descent, specifically from Liguria, who served as mayor of the city in the 1970s.

The San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk (SFLIHW) project celebrates the significant contributions of the Italian American community to the city's growth and vitality.

The SF Comites is one of the founding members of this project, which involves the placement of plaques along the sidewalks of the historic Italian neighborhood of North Beach/Little Italy. The same Comites is also responsible for creating the app that provides more detailed information about the SFLIHW program and its esteemed awardees.

Jointly conceived by Le Donne d'Italia and the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco, this project came to life through the collaboration of several committees, including Italian Community Services, Italian Heritage Parade, San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, San Francisco Italian Heritage, ISSNAF Bay Area Chapter (Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation) and the SVIEC Foundation.
