March 14 - May 18, 2025. Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, 1023 Hilgard Ave, Los Angeles, CA. On view by appointment, click here. Visions of Volterra invites you on a journey where innovation meets history, unveiling digital preservation efforts in this ancient Italian city. At the heart of the exhibit is Volterra’s recently discovered Roman Amphitheater, a 1st-century marvel still under excavation.
Through cutting-edge tools like drones, photogrammetry, and 3D laser scanning, researchers have digitally reconstructed Volterra’s historic sites in stunning detail that challenge traditional views of ancient architecture. Featuring high-resolution 3D models, printed replicas, and rare antiquities, Visions of Volterra highlights how digital innovation is reshaping our understanding of the past while preserving it for the future.
Organized under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy by the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles in collaboration with the Soprintendenza per l’Archeologia, le Belle Arti e il Paesaggio per le province di Pisa e Livorno, Autodesk, Volterra-Detroit Foundation and Case Technologies and the support of Ronga.
