Italy's Alenia Aermacchi has been awarded a $141 million contract by Lockheed Martin for the production of components for the Joint Strike Fighter, as well as for the assembly of the first complete wing for the aircraft, the firm said.
Alenia Aermacchi will provide components for the JSF central fuselage, wing and wing box, the firm said in a statement.

The components will be produced at Alenia Aermacchi's facilities in Foggia and Nola in southern Italy, as well as at Cameri in northern Italy, which is also home to Italy's Final Assembly and Check Out line that will deliver Italy's Joint Strike Fighters.
The statement said the $141 million contract includes non-recurring activities of up to $60 million for production tools.
Alenia Aermacchi is a second source supplier of wings for the JSF. The Alenia Aermacchi spokesman said the firm had signed to provide 800 wings for the aircraft, although Lockheed Martin has referred to cuts in Italian work on the JSF wing to reflect Italy's decision last year to reduce its order of JSF aircraft from 141 to 90.
Italy has now ordered six aircraft from LRIP 6 and 7, with the first aircraft due off the line in 2015.
