Maria and Pietro Vicari arrived in America from Italy in 1976 and 1978, in April 1994, the two opened their business Café Michelina located at 423 Bloomfield Street. Although Maria passed away in 2016, Pietro and their son Sal Vicari are still running the business and going 28 years strong.
On October 19, the longtime business owners and community supporters were recognized for their years of service and support by the Hoboken City Council. “I think it speaks to the testament of the Vicari family to continue running this restaurant using the recipes [and] the memories of his mom and serving this community,” shared CouncilmanMike DeFusco of Sal's continuance of the family tradition.
