What's in a name? For New York mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio, his cognomen is a point of pride. After all, he chose it. In fact, the man formerly known as Bill Wilhelm paid homage to his Italian mother by legally embracing her surname. Moreover, de Blasio's offspring are called Dante and Chiara.
Rather than killing Columbus' heritage, de Blasio exalts it. Unlike the self-loathing Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York mayor who fancies himself a born-again don Vito Corleone.
