Delaware Backstory: Remembering artist Charles Colombo

Delaware recently lost a notable artist with the passing of Wilmington painter Charles A. Colombo Sr., whose work spanned more than a half-century. Colombo, a popular artist and featured artist at the prestigious Hardcastle Galleries, died Feb. 16 at the age of 87.

At the time of his death, Colombo was offering six of his original watercolors, ranging from $3,000 to $25,000, through art.com, which also sold prints of many of his works. That site carried the artist's brief annotations, for example noting with his wistful and cloudlike portrait of Mother Theresa that it was "a very special piece....for a very special person."
