Three local standout athletes were among those honored at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Chapter's 29th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner held this past April.
Monessen's Donna DeMarino Sanft was a Hall of Fame inductee while Louis "Bimbo" Cecconi of Donora received the Frank A. Santamaria Lifetime Achievement Award. Belle Vernon longtime basketball coach Don Asmonga received the Pittsburgh Legends honor posthumously.
