In 2016, the thought of being suited up and shipped off to war at the age of 15 is almost unimaginable. Well, not only did George Belloni Sr. enter World War II before he was even old enough to vote, he volunteered to do it.
"It was illegal to do it, but my mom and dad signed for me," Belloni said of his enlistment. "The recruiter, he knew I wanted to go." Belloni grew up in New Jersey in a small, mostly Italian neighborhood. In 1942, a few months after America was thrust into the second World War after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Belloni decided it was time to defend his freedom.
