He's one of history's most famous explorers, but until now, he'd never been able to find Hamilton. All that changed Friday when the Mercer County Italian American Festival Association unveiled a new Christopher Columbus statue at its headquarters, marking the pioneer's first presence in the township.
At 7 feet tall and 300 pounds, the concrete statue cuts an impressive figure on the corner of Liberty Street and Newkirk Avenue, and plans are in the works to make the statue even more noteworthy with an added pedestal, Italian flag and light that will always shine on the display, according to Frank Bruno, who helped plan the event.
