At the close of business on Friday, Roma Bank, the 93-year-old community bank founded in the Chambersburg neighborhood of Trenton, ceased to exist as a business entity. While the sign on the bank's Town Center headquarters won't come down just yet, Roma Bank and Investors Bank on Friday took the final step in consummating a $452 million merger of the two financial institutions, closing the chapter on a yearlong saga and welcoming in a new era of banking in Mercer County.
The deal spells the end of Roma Bank, which grew into a central New Jersey institution largely over the last decade, after decades as a small town bank.
